Overview of the Jockey Coaching Programme
The aim of the Jockey Coaching Programme is to encourage and enhance the career development of all Apprentice and Conditional Jockeys. All elite athletes depend on a network of support professionals to enable them to have the best possible opportunity for success. In racing, the Jockey Coach is at the heart of this network and works alongside fitness coaches, sports psychologists, nutritionists, careers advisors and other industry professionals. The Jockey Coaching Handbook can be found here.
Covering nine specialist curriculum areas, Jockeys are carefully supported and mentored to develop and refine their technical and tactical skills to enable them to perform to their optimum capacity on a racecourse. Fitness and nutrition advice prepares them to be physically able to meet the demands of their career. Jockeys are coached to acquire the mental capabilities and resilience required to sustain them through the highs and lows of race riding.
Mentoring in lifestyle management, financial planning and career progression enables Jockeys to create a balanced approach to their professional working life.
